An outcome of this oh so interesting time is that I have begun working with individuals across the country and California to further their tracking skills. Each session is customized to the skill level, passions and intentions of the individual, allowing us both to expand and grow in our tracking practices. Black Bear DNA Project Training for Volunteers- North Bay Bear Collaborative We have not yet settled on a date as it is dependent on our spring rains, but if you are interested please contact Meghan Walla-Murphy for more information. Training will ideally begin in April Scat and Hair Collection will begin in late spring and continue until the first rains of fall. Open to the public
Seeing Bear, Fish, and Water from Beaver's Perspective- A Three Day Tracking Workshop Let's learn about the amazing behavior of Beaver in their Sierra, South Lake Tahoe, and Alpine County habitats. By becoming more familiar with beaver, we will track and learn about their relationships with water, bear, and fish. ALL life needs water, so imagine what surprises we will encounter in high mountain country meadows, forests and riparian areas. Be aware there may be walking up to 6 miles and in elevations up to 7-8,000 feet.

Fire, Pathways and the Buckeye Crew Due to November Paradise/Camp Fire, Buckeye will look a bit differently this year, but we are hoping to tend the land and reciprocate back to the waters, soils, critters, fungus, and plants that have taught us so much. Tracking evaluator and hunter Matt Nelson and I will be offering a last-minute pop-uptrailing class in the high desert of Cuyama, CA at Quail Springs Permaculture Retreat Center. From Thursday, September 27th thru Sunday September 30th, we will learn the art of trailing an animal as it moves through its daily routines. Deer, cougar, black bear, coyote, and all the little creatures of the desert provide ample learning opportunities as we explore the Dick Smith Wilderness, Chumash Wilderness and the Los Padres National Forest. Quail Springs offers a rustic, private, and secluded canyon for us to camp in, while providing nutritious, local and organic breakfasts and dinners. Participants will provide their own lunches and camping gear. We are looking for a minimum of 5 and a max of 8 people to join us for this adventure!
