Join Caitlin Williams and Meghan Walla-Murphy on Hunting Island in South Carolina. Caitlin and Meghan have been wandering, tracking, and teaching together in California since 2010. In 2021, Caitlin moved back to her home state of North Carolina. This move gave Meghan and Caitlin the chance to explore South Carolina's Barrier Islands together. Both women were enchanted by their time on the islands and decided to share their love of this unique expanse with others.
The Barrier Islands are full of wondrous wildlife and plants, and home to the Gullah Geechee, descendants of Africans who were once enslaved on indigo, rice, and cotton plantations. Despite colonization and oppression, the Gullah Geechee retain their own language, food, and artistic culture which cannot be separated from the marsh wilderness. Dates: November 9-12th, 2023 Cost: $775- Early registration September 1st |
Hunting Island State Park
Hunting Island is one of the only barrier islands that has been completely conserved as a State Park, with no permanent residences on the island. Five miles of pristine South Carolina beaches, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet are all part of the park’s natural allure.

Lodging and Food
Sleep listening to ocean waves crash. Relax to the birds, frogs, and mud sounds of the marsh. To fully immerse yourself in this unique ecosystem, we have reserved a block of beach side campsites for tent camping, gathering, and sharing meals.
